Wait for ‘judgement day’, disgruntled Teh tells DAP

Tanjung Bungah assemblyman says his voters will judge the claimed ill-treatment he received from DAP on polling day.

Teh-Yee-Cheu,
GEORGE TOWN: The new Tanjung Bungah service centre set up by the DAP is a clear act of “hijacking” and “power abuse” by the state government, the party’s disgruntled elected rep, Teh Yee Cheu, said today.

He said the authorities had taken away the right of an elected representative to discharge his duties for his voters through his official centre.

The out-of-favour Teh said the Penang government should have waited until the next polls when he would officially leave the party.

“An elected rep’s service centre and office have been hijacked. This is an abuse of power to sideline the elected wakil rakyat. Hopefully, the people of Tanjung Bungah can see and judge for themselves.

“The judgement day for me is the day when the people go to the voting booths on election day,” he told reporters today.

Last Sunday, DAP opened a new Tanjung Bungah service centre in Tanjung Pinang to replace Teh’s service centre at the Hillside neighbourhood. Bukit Bendera MP Zairil Khir Johari, whose constituency covers Tanjung Bungah, has been put in charge of the centre.

Teh was forced to close his centre after his allocation of nearly RM200,000 was terminated by the Penang government.

The state government said Teh was stripped of his allocation due to his decision to leave the DAP in the next election and his alleged decline in performance as an assemblyman.

Teh had announced he would leave DAP at the end of this term, citing his dissatisfaction with the Penang government and its leadership.

He said he would contest in the next election, but was undecided which party or seat he would choose.

Teh says PRM members are allies

Asked if he would be joining Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM), since he was often seen with their members, Teh said he was just supporting his friends.

“PRM has been friends of the DAP for many decades now. At every DAP ceramah, PRM’s Gary Nair is always there.

“Mind you, I am not with a BN party or with BN friendly parties. I am with an opposition ally,” he said.

When asked if he was afraid of being sacked as a member of the DAP, Teh said he was not, as his conscience was clear.

“I am okay. I am telling the truth. I am leaving the DAP at the end of this term. I sent a letter to the leadership a long time ago.”
