Acting Penang Gerakan Youth chief Jason Loo claimed that the luxury condominium units, under the City of Dreams, being developed on a piece of land known as Lot 702, Seksyen 1, Bandar Tanjung Pinang, had been promoted to be sold even before the land was alienated by the state government to the undersea tunnel Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) – by a period of almost two years.
Loo said the sale of the luxury units, developed by third-party project developer Ewein Zenith Sdn Bhd, was promoted as early as December 2013, at a minimum price of about RM1.5 million.
On the other hand, Loo said the land alienation, which was used as payment to the SPV for the three main roads project, was done in February 2015. He referred to a reply given by state Public Works committee chairman Lim Hock Seng.
“It is rather amusing that Ewein Zenith, a third party could promote the sale of the luxury condominium units two years before the SPV was given the land by the state government.
“How could the state have allowed this promotion of the sale of the units?” he questioned at a press conference here today.
The infrastructure project came under renewed scrutiny by Barisan Nasional (BN) following a fresh probe by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) last month.
The 7.2km undersea tunnel will connect George Town’s Pangkor Road with Bagan Ajam in Butterworth. It is scheduled to begin in 2023.
The “three main roads” (formerly three paired roads) stretch from Air Itam to the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway (5.7km), Tanjung Bungah to Teluk Bahang (10.53km), and the Jalan Pangkor-Gurney Drive junction to the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway (4.1km).
