Boy killed by falling chair: Cops collect DNA samples

Statements recorded from over 30 people in case classified as murder.

Police have recorded statements from 31 individuals to facilitate investigations into the case of a teenage boy who died after being hit by an office chair believed to have been thrown from an upper floor unit at the Seri Pantai people’s housing project in Pantai Dalam, here, on Monday.

City police chief Mazlan Lazim said all of them were witnesses and residents of the 21-storey flat.

“The Crime Scene Investigation Unit has also taken the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) samples from the chair and five witnesses for analysis,” he said in a statement today.

The case has been classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

He said the victim’s body was sent to the University Malaya Medical Centre for post-mortem but the report was not ready yet.

Mazlan also urged the public against making speculations on the case and those with information could contact investigating officer ASP Firdaus Shahril at 012-3388164/ 03-90516222 or Brickfields Criminal Investigations Department chief DSP Tonny Lunggan at 014-6225262.

In the 8.10pm incident, S Sathiswaran, 15, died at the scene due to severe head injuries.

His mother was with him at the time.
