PETALING JAYA: Tune Talk has appointed a new CEO to replace Jason Lo, four months after the singer denied a report that he was involved in a drug-related arrest in Dubai.

The telecommunication company linked to AirAsia’s Tony Fernandes announced Ameen Amaendran Abdullah as the firm’s new CEO.

“Different cookie, same quirky,” the company said on its Facebook, with a cover version of the song “New Rules” by British singer Dua Lipa, featuring Ameen and Tune Talk staff.

Ameen formerly headed telecommunications firm redONE, and served at Celcom as head of its mobile and wireless services.

He takes over from Lo, who in November was reportedly arrested in Dubai over a drug case, which he has denied.

The arrest took place on Sept 18, a day before an annual telecommunication conference where Lo was among the speakers.

“It’s Dubai. I don’t think people get out (of UAE) if charged with such things. No matter who you are friends with,” the 44-year-old singer told FMT.

Instead, Lo said he was sent to a police lock-up after a scuffle with an undercover policeman, saying he had attempted to help his friend who tried to break up a fight at the Dubai International Airport.

Lo claimed his time in lock-up was prolonged because the undercover cop failed to give his statement.

Stop the ridiculous rumours, says Jason Lo
