State Communications and Multimedia and Special Functions Committee chairman Ghazali Taib said since a news report on his recent meeting with more than 100 transvestites in Kuala Terengganu was published by the media, he had been receiving calls from foreign journalist keen to know more about it.
“Initially, they thought the state government wanted to penalise the transvestites or take action that might breach human rights.
“However, after explaining to them the state government’s intention in wanting to bring the transvestites back to the right path, only then did they (foreign journalists) understand the real objective of the rehabilitation programme for transvestites in Terengganu,” he said today.
He said the foreign news media that had contacted him included those from France, Japan, Korea and some European countries.
