Amanah targets winning 20 seats in GE14

Its communications chief Khalid Samad says achieving this target would be remarkable as this is Amanah's first general election.

PETALING JAYA: Amanah communications chief Khalid Samad says the party can win 20 out of the 27 seats it will be contesting in the 14th general election (GE14).

He added that it would be remarkable if the party could achieve the target.

“This is because this is the first general election for Amanah.

“If we manage to secure 20 seats, it would be better than parties that want to contest 100 but can only win two or three seats,” he said at a programme titled “Fokus Bersama Khalid Samad Pembahagian Kerusi Parlimen Pakatan Harapan: Satu Penjelasan” that was aired live through the Amanah Facebook page.

At the Pakatan Harapan (PH) convention last Sunday, it was announced that PPBM would run for election in 52 parliamentary constituencies in Peninsular Malaysia, PKR in 51, DAP in 35 and Amanah in 27.

However, Federal Territory Amanah members had expressed their unhappiness that the party would not be contesting a single seat in any of constituencies.

Khalid, who is Shah Alam MP, said the 27 seats given to Amanah were what they had asked for.

“Seats like Shah Alam, Kota Raja, Sepang, Hulu Langat and Kuala Selangor, in Selangor, were the seats that we asked for and eventually were given,” he said.

He also explained why Amanah would not be contesting in the Federal Territory despite having previously stood in Titiwangsa.

“At the very last moment of negotiations, we decided to give the seat up to PPBM.

“God willing, this will be brought up at the presidential council where there will be a swap to ensure that Amanah has one seat in the Federal Territory.

“This is in order for our machinery to be pumped up for all the seats as they know that they will be assisted by our coalition partners.”

Khalid added that the four parties in PH were still discussing the state seats.

He said it was possible that if a parliamentary seat was contested by party A, the state seats would be contested by parties B and C.

“If there are three state seats, then they could be contested by parties B, C and A again,” he said.
