PJ Utara MCA coordinator and deputy chairman Ch’ng Soon Chau said constituencies should not balloon to 160,000 voters.
“The PJU MCA had objected to the proposal as we strongly felt that any constituency should be kept to a maximum of 100,000 voters.
“This is in line with the statement by former EC chairman Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman. He was right as 100,000 is more manageable for any constituency as there should not be too many or too few voters anywhere,” he said when met here today.
PJ’s characteristics will be diluted by the proposal, he said.
“P106 consists of two state seats, N35 Kampung Tunku (32,000 voters) and N36 Damansara Utama (50,000 voters). That was a suitable number and I think it should stay that way.
“Adding Bukit Lanjan will dilute the characteristics of PJ. The place doesn’t represent PJ. This is our basic opinion.
“We ask that PJU be returned to status quo as the original PJU with two state seats.”
This particular redelineation will turn P106, which is Petaling Jaya Utara, into Damansara by merging the PJU, parts of Selayang, Bukit Lanjan, Sungai Buloh and Kepong.
It will turn P106 into a massive seat. From 85,000 voters, the number will balloon to almost 160,000, thus making it one of the largest seats in the country.
