PETALING JAYA: Thomas Grant Gustin, well-known for his role as the titular protagonist in the TV series The Flash, held a symbolic ceremony to honour the ancestors of his fiancée, Andrea Thoma, who is half-Kadazan, during a visit to Sabah.

Thoma, 29, is a physical therapist. Although she was born and raised in Ohio, her mother is from Sabah and taught her Malay and Kadazan.

For Gustin, 27, it was his first time visiting Malaysia. Speaking to The Star, he said he was impressed by the beauty of the country, as well as the people of Malaysia.

The traditional ceremony was held at Thoma’s family home in Kampung Kolopis Penampang on Wednesday. It was attended by a few of Thoma’s and Gustin’s close friends and family members.

Thoma said that her family travels to Sabah every few years in order to stay connected to her heritage, and Gustin intends to follow suit.

The couple is expected to tie the knot in the United States next year.
