
According to Johor police chief Comm Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd, the vehicle was abandoned at an oil palm estate in Air Baloi, Pontian by the suspects after the Dec 17 incident.
“The car was found without its registration plate,” he was quoted as saying by The Star at a press conference in Johor Bahru today.
He added that some members of the public had spotted the car on Tuesday, which the police consider one of the two murder weapons used to kill the 44-year-old victim, and notified the police.
Khalil said police had released four of the 15 suspects who were arrested in the course of their murder investigation.
“We are still looking for three more main suspects to aid in our investigations into the petrol station murder,” he said, according to the daily.
The incident at the petrol station attracted the attention of the public after a video of it went viral on social media.
In the 7.30am incident on Dec 17, the victim died at the scene after being stabbed, knocked down and run over by the white BMW. The man, who was with a woman believed to be his wife, was inflating the tyres of his car just before he was attacked.
Police later confirmed that the deceased had died from his stab wounds.
Following the murder, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also home minister, was quoted as saying that the victim was the leader of a secret society and that the attack stemmed from an ongoing dispute between two gangs.
