
Johor police chief Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said a manhunt had been launched to track down the suspects.
He said investigations revealed that the registration number WB79L did not belong to the BMW 520i car used in the incident.
“The original owner had been detected and after interviewing the owner, we found that the person had nothing to do with the case,” he said in a statement here today.
He said the autopsy carried out by the Sultanah Aminah Hospital revealed that the victim had died due to a stab wound to the heart.
Khalil also asked members of the public who had any information on the incident to contact the nearest police station or call the Johor Police Hotline at 07-2212999.
In the incident at about 7.30pm last night, the victim, in his 30’s, died after he was stabbed by a group of men and run over by a BMW that they used.
The incident occurred when the victim, who was with a woman, in her 20s, believed to be his wife, was inflating the tyres of his Volkswagen at the petrol station.
The suspects suddenly appeared and tried to pull him into their car.
The victim, however, resisted and there was a scuffle between the suspects and the victim. The suspects were believed to have stabbed the victim during the scuffle.
The woman, who was with the victim, immediately fled and sought help from members of the public.
The suspects got into their car and knocked the victim down. They reversed the car and ran over the victim before driving off.
