He said the “report card” was aimed at lifting the spirit of Umno delegates and the people out there.
“It is to convince the people that they really only have two choices – voting BN or the opposition — and they can base their decision on our track record using that report card,” he told a press conference after Najib’s speech at PWTC here.
The road to the two-third majority target would not be easy, he reminded.
“We hope the rakyat would be with us. The report card is not something that can be made up, it is proven and it has the support of Umno and its members.
“It may not be an easy way forward but it is not an impossible way forward in convincing more and achieving the two-thirds.”
Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, another Umno vice-president who is performing the duties of the deputy president, said the party would strive to regain the two-third majority.
Asked if regaining the two-third majority was a tall order, Zahid said: “We are trying.”
“We are focusing on the middle ground voters by cooperating with not only our component parties but also with NGOs.”
Zahid said the most important aspect of Najib’s speech for Umno members to heed was the emphasis on solidarity.
“Solidarity among the leaders is the utmost important point from the president’s speech. We also have to put internal conflicts aside. If both these elements are heeded as well as the support from our component parties in BN, the PM’s wishes can be achieved.”
