Pahang Department of Environment (DOE) director Rosli Zul said this was based on monitoring conducted by the department last Sunday.
“The DOE will call the relevant parties regarding the rehabilitation proposal at the area,” he said today.
Rosli also confirmed that the department did not receive the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) report from the related parties prior to work being carried out.
Residents and non-governmental organisations had earlier objected to projects at the forest, alleging it could affect the environment and water catchment area.
On Nov 30, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar was reported to have said he had instructed the DOE director-general to issue a stop-work order on all activities in the forest.
Last Monday, Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob said the state government was willing to cancel the logging and development projects in Merapoh forest after taking into account the significance of the water catchment area.
