Its deputy chief commissioner (operations) Azam Baki said the MACC viewed the matter seriously as the contents of the documents were being circulated over social media.

“We would like to state that the documents of the recorded statement of one of the accused have been given to the defendant’s lawyer upon request,” he said in a statement today.

He said the documents were handed over for the purpose of the defence.

Azam said in view of the fact that the case was still pending in court, the MACC was worried that the leak would affect the legal proceedings. He added that it was also sub judice.

He said a report would be lodged for action to be taken against those who were responsible for circulating the documents.

Yesterday, Senai assemblywoman Wong Shu Qi was ordered to leave the Johor State Assembly sitting and referred to its rights and privileges committee for refusing to retract a statement she made, reportedly based on a witness statement.

Wong claimed to have found out about the matter through documents uploaded on a website.
