
The resignation comes as a surprise as he was only due to complete the term of his appointment in April 2019.
According to the daily, he is believed to have chosen to take the “early retirement” option.
With Sukhdave’s departure, BNM has only one deputy governor now, that is Shaik Abdul Rasheed Abdul Ghaffour.
BNM, which is governed under the Central Bank of Malaysia Act 2009, allows for up to three deputy governors to be in office at any one time.
The finance minister is now empowered to appoint a new deputy governor, or two if he so wishes.
