Calling the forms an attempt to smear the image of Barisan Nasional (BN) and the ruling government, Rahim urged the people not to be fooled.
“This is a clear attempt by some, and you know who you are, to mislead the people into thinking that BN uses such tactics to win in the next election,” he said in a statement.
The Pantai Manis assemblyman said the people should open their eyes and realise who the “real culprits” were who used “dirty and fear tactics, religion and character assassination” to destabilise BN.
“There are people out there singing the same old song and dance, accusing BN of underhanded methods in our politics.
“People should realise that these very same people are no angels. Always lurking about, scheming and plotting new ways to hoodwink the people into hating BN.”
The issue came about yesterday, when the National Registration Department (NRD) denied issuing forms where applicants must vow to vote for BN.
The forms in question require the person to promise to vote for BN, failing which the identity card can be “cancelled”.
Rahim said the fake forms were the result of a last-minute job and ridden with mistakes.
“They forgot to put in crucial details like race, religion and parents’ information.
“The form also had typos. It is actually quite laughable,” he said.
