Parti Amanah Negara vice-president Husam Musa’s son, Ahmad Syafi, had been arrested on Saturday after he was found to be in possession of 20g of methamphetamine at a house in Kampung Jelutong.
Magistrate Kamarul Hasyime Rosli set Jan 14 for a remention of the case and also ordered the 29-year-old accused to pay RM10,000 bail with one surety.
On Sunday, Husam revealed in a post on his Facebook page that his neighbour had informed him that his son had been arrested the day before.
“I only learned that my son Ahmad Syafi was remanded at the Kota Bharu court on charges of possession of drugs at 5.22pm today (Sunday) when someone sent me a screenshot of a Malaysiakini report through WhatsApp,” he said.
The Salor state assemblyman added then that he would release a full statement once he had all the information from the police and was allowed to see his son.
Kota Bharu district police chief ACP Ismail Mat Sidik was reported by Harian Metro as saying that Syafi was arrested in front of a house on Jalan Pasir Mas-Salor.
He added there was a struggle between the suspect and a team from the Kota Bharu Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department before he was arrested.
“The suspect was brought to the Kota Bharu court to obtain a four-day remand order.
“The man was arrested to facilitate investigations under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” Kota Bharu district police chief ACP Ismail Mat Sidik was reported as saying.
