Speaking to reporters outside the home ministry complex here today, Tan said the party had complied with the directive from the Registrar of Societies (RoS) by holding its special congress on Nov 12, and that its central executive committee (CEC) had been chosen by the delegates.
Tan said under the Societies Act 1966, the party had 60 days to submit the report on its special congress to the RoS through its appointed audit firm, Grant Thornton.
“It has only been seven days. However, I have been made to understand that the audit firm will complete the report as soon as possible.
“I hope this can be completed by the end of the week and submitted to RoS.
“We have 60 days, but so as to not delay Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) registration, I will ask the audit firm to expedite the report and forward it to RoS immediately,” he said.
On Friday, RoS director-general Surayati Ibrahim said the agency had yet to receive any report on the DAP CEC re-election which concluded on Nov 12.
The new line-up saw 90% of DAP’s top leadership remain unchanged.
The re-election also saw DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang securing the highest number of votes.
Kit Siang secured 1,199 votes out of the total 1,346, followed by the party’s legal bureau chairman Gobind Singh Deo with 1,198 votes, and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng with 1,180 votes.
The special congress was held following the directive for fresh elections to be held for the CEC.
The dispute over DAP’s 2012 party elections was revived in July, three years after the matter was thought to have been settled between the party and RoS.
On July 7, the RoS issued a statement saying it had instructed DAP to hold a fresh election for its CEC, as DAP’s earlier re-election, held on Sept 29, 2013, was not in accordance with the law.
