Jakim Halal Hub division director Sirajuddin Suhaimee said the collaboration was to help prepare halal food for athletes competing in the Olympics.
The move was following Prime Minister Najib Razak’s meeting with his counterpart from Japan in Tokyo on Nov 20, last year, regarding the halal issue.
“Jakim is ready to send officials to provide training and update (the organisers) on the criteria used to produce halal food.
“The collaboration is a golden opportunity for Jakim to further promote Malaysia’s halal certification globally,” he told reporters after a meeting between the Perlis delegation to Japan, led by the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail and the 2020 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games organising committee in Toranomon Hills Mori Tower, yesterday.
Tokyo Olympics chief operations officer Yukihiko Nunomura headed the Japanese delegation during the meeting while the Malaysian ambassador to Japan Ahmad Izlan Idris and officers from the Halal Japan Corporation (HDC) headed by Hirobumi Ohsato were also present.
During the meeting, Sirajuddin briefed the Japanese delegation about Jakim’s halal certification that is being used in 41 countries.
Sirajuddin said currently two slaughter houses in Okayama have received Jakim’s halal certification and animals slaughtered at the two houses are also exported to Malaysia.
“Though Jakim is satisfied with the cleanliness and hygiene of food products manufactured by Japanese traders which is according to the requirements of Islam, the Syariah aspect is not complete and this is one area that our expertise is needed,” he said.
