Man fined RM4,000 for hitting girlfriend with hammer

He had hit his girlfriend when she refused to marry him.

PETALING JAYA: An unemployed man was fined RM4,000 in default of six months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here today for hitting his girlfriend on the head with a hammer.

Magistrate Zaki Asyraf Zubir handed down the sentence on A Kesavan, 26, after he pleaded guilty to voluntarily causing hurt to B Vekaneswari, 29, in a house at Jalan SS7/1, Kelana Jaya, here, at 2.30pm on Oct 3.

The former bus driver was charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of 10 years, or fine, or whipping or any two of the penalties.

Earlier, Kesavan appealed for a fine, saying he was remorseful for his action but deputy public prosecutor Fazeedah Faik urged for a deterrent sentence.

According to the facts of the case, the accused asked the victim to marry him but when she refused, he hit her with the hammer.
