Two Malaysian men, aged 27 and 36, and a 40-year-old Thai man were detained at a roadblock at Jalan Selama in front of Sekolah Kebangsaan Matang Jelutung at 7.05pm, said Kerian District Police chief Supt Omar Bakhtiar Yaacob.
He said the snakes were found in separate wooden boxes in the suspects’ car, a Proton Saga. They were travelling from Alor Pongsu to Bagan Serai.
“All three of them did not have a permit from the Department of Wildlife and National Parks to have the snakes in their possession,” he said in a statement today.
He said the integrated traffic operation from 5pm to midnight involved members of the police, Wildlife and National Parks Department and the Perak Forestry Department.
They checked 75 vehicles and issued 55 summonses for various traffic offences, he added.
