KUALA LUMPUR:
A defamation suit filed by Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin against Red Shirts leader Jamal Md Yunos has been amicably settled after the Sungai Besar Umno division chief retracted his remark that he was given a bloody nose by her supporters.

The retraction was read out at the Kuala Lumpur High Court before Justice S Nantha Balan during the mediation process today, media reports said.

Jamal said in his statement that he had used the words in anger against Zuraida and regretted it.

He also promised not to repeat any statement relating to the incident against Zuraida.

On Nov 13, Jamal and his supporters had followed Zuraida and her supporters to the Ampang Point shopping mall.

A scuffle ensued when police tried to prevent Jamal and his supporters from following Zuraida.

Jamal was left with a bloody nose and he had told reporters that he was assaulted by Zuraida’s supporters.

In her suit filed on Nov 17 last year, Zuraida had asked for aggravated and general damages; an injunction to refrain Jamal or his agents from further publishing the defamatory words orally or via print media or the internet as well as costs.

The judge today recorded an undisclosed sum that was to be paid to Zuraida.
