Deputy Inspector-General of Police Noor Rashid Ibrahim said this was based on the suspect’s urine test which was positive for drugs.
Following the result of the urine test, the case will also be investigated under the Dangerous Drugs Act, he told reporters after attending a Deepavali celebration at the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters here today.
He said investigation on the suspect also revealed that he had a previous record for a drug-related offence.
The suspect is now in remand for four days after he was arrested last Monday when he surrendered at the Ampang district police station.
In the 6.30am incident last Friday, three Rela members – Melvin Cheong Mun Khai, 19; Lee Weng Poh, 27; and Leong Jiun Jie, 21; – were injured on the head, eye and abdomen after they were allegedly hit and kicked by the “Datuk Seri”.
The assault took place right after the Rela members, who were on duty at a temple in Kampung Baru Ampang, requested the man move his Toyota Vellfire as the vehicle was obstructing traffic.
In another development, Noor Rashid said the police were in contact with Thai police to facilitate investigations into the arrest of a 19-year-old Malaysian man suspected of involvement in a “Macau Scam” syndicate headed by a Taiwanese gangster.
The youth was arrested following a raid on a condominium where Thai police rescued a Malaysian woman and arrested five others.
They also arrested a 29-year-old Taiwanese man believed to be the syndicate’s ringleader.
