PETALING JAYA: Myanmar authorities have arrested two journalists, one from Malaysia and the other from Singapore, for using a drone to take pictures, Channel NewsAsia reported.

Myanmar media identified the detained journalists as Malaysian Mok Choy Lin, 47, and Singaporean Lau Hon Meng, 44.

The news portal said the Singaporean was with the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation.

The Myanmar information ministry said the journalists had intended to take pictures of Parliament buildings and pagodas in the capital city of Nay Pyi Taw when security guards spotted them.

The ministry said they had informed the Malaysian and Singapore embassies about the arrests.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, the portal added.

Drones have increasingly been popular with journalists to take aerial views of buildings and are frequently used in disaster zones or inaccessible places.
