Sohaimi, 48, sustained stab wounds to his right shoulder and the back of his ear when he was attacked with a knife by the 27-year-old man, reported the New Straits Times.
In the 8.30pm incident, Sohaimi’s relative was also allegedly slashed on his face.
According to Sohaimi’s wife, Ruby Arshad, the two were receiving treatment at KPJ Damansara Specialist Hospital and were in stable condition.
“The attacker had earlier thrown a stone at my husband’s relative, injuring him on his arm,” Ruby said.
She said Sohaimi was not at home when it happened and when her husband came back, he went over to the attacker’s house, across from their house, along with his brother and two other relatives.
“My husband wanted to speak to the attacker’s father over the incident. However, while at the front door of the house, the attacker lunged at my husband and a relative was slashed on his face while trying to shield my husband,” the NST quoted Ruby as saying.
Police have arrested the attacker, who is believed to be unemployed.
“The attacker is believed to be mentally unsound. Preliminary investigations show that there was no motive for the attack,” Sungai Buloh police chief Superintendent S Somu said.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons.
