The claim, which was submitted for the month of August, was for five hours of overtime work done on a Sunday, The Star reported.
Shah Alam Mayor Ahmad Zaharin Mohd Saad said the council had turned down the claim following an internal investigation, adding that such requests would not be entertained without approval from the heads of departments.
“This is something we have been practising, but somehow it is not being followed through. However, after this there will be no compromise on the issue,” he was quoted as saying.
Ahmad Zaharin added that daily tasks should be completed within working hours and not carried out at the whim and fancy of employees.
“I take these things very seriously, and I believe everyone should do the same because this involves the rakyat’s money,” he said in the report.
Some 200 claims out of 500 for the month of September have also been held back for further scrutiny, the daily added.
