PETALING JAYA:
Several PAS leaders today voiced their support for the Malaysian Muslim Consumers Association (PPIM) that has claimed illegal gambling activities in the country were controlled by nine powerful gang bosses called “dragons”.

PAS information chief Nasrudin Hassan called on the people to join PPIM in exposing and combating this immoral activity.

“PPIM is not alone. PAS is behind them.

“I call on all Malaysians, regardless of race or religion, to join PPIM and help destroy illegal gambling right down to its roots,” he said in a statement.

Last Wednesday, PPIM claimed illegal gambling was controlled by nine bosses given the title of “dragons”.

PPIM head activist Nadzim Johan reportedly said the nine “dragons” collected RM5 billion in profits each month through a hierarchical system practised for years.

Nadzim alleged the “dragons” were so powerful, they could engineer the transfer of enforcement officers who disrupted their activities, within 24 hours.

Calling on the police to provide protection for PPIM after it exposed the illegal gambling activities, PAS central committee member Dr Riduan Mohd Nor said, “These gangsters must be arrested before they act against those they view as a threat to them.

“This country must be freed from gambling, prostitution, narcotics and all immoral activities that are dangerous and destructive.”

Meanwhile, PAS Youth leader Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi urged the government to propose comprehensive measures to tackle this “critical” issue.

He said the issue impacted on the integrity of the government and the sovereignty of the country.

“This problem must be overcome before it becomes a cancer in society,” he said.
