
Elaborating, Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said the centre would help arrive at the most suitable methods to tackle the threats posed by the militant group.
“Daesh (IS) militants have begun making this region their new target.
“As such, efforts to fight Daesh militants must not be focused on military approaches alone,” he said at the Special Breakfast Meeting session before attending the 11th Asean Defence Minister’s Meeting (ADMM) in Clark, Pampanga, Philippine, yesterday.
At the meeting, efforts to fight the threats of extremism, radicalisation and terrorism were discussed.
Hishammuddin, who is also Minister With Special Functions at the Prime Minister’s Department, stressed on the need to resolve the Rohingyas humanitarian crisis in Myanmar, as the minority group was feared to be an easy target for recruitment by the IS.
The setting up of the KSCIP in Malaysia was a result of Saudi’s King Salman Abdulaziz Al Saud’s visit to Malaysia in February.
