According to a source, the 33-year-old businessman, who is the husband of Hamid’s eldest daughter, was arrested at the MACC office in Kota Kinabalu.
He was there to assist in the MACC’s investigation into the alleged misappropriation of funds from rural development projects in Sabah.
MACC deputy chief commissioner Azam Baki confirmed the arrest when contacted but declined to comment further.
Today’s arrest is the eighth by the anti-graft agency in two weeks.
The fist to be arrested was Parti Warisan Sabah vice president Peter Anthony, followed by that of a 40-year-old former deputy undersecretary (infrastructure) from the rural and regional development ministry, who was detained in Putrajaya on Oct 5.
Businessman, Yu Sin Kong, who was arrested with Peter has been released on bail.
Warisan youth chief Mohd Azis Jamman’s remand that ended on Saturday was extended for three more days together with two Sabah Umno Youth leaders.
The anti-graft agency is investigating the alleged siphoning of federal funds for rural projects in Sabah since 2009.
The RM1.5 billion was said to be part of a RM7.5 billion allocation for projects in Sabah involving water, electricity and road infrastructure development.
Hamid, who is the brother of Parti Warisan Sabah president Shafie Apdal, was arrested on Oct 10.
His daughters, who have appealed to the MACC not to extend Hamid’s remand that will end tomorrow, say their father is innocent and not in good health.
