This was confirmed today by his counsel Martin Tommy.
Peter was initially remanded for five days from last Friday but the order was extended by three days on Tuesday.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) detained him to assist in its investigation into the alleged misappropriation of RM1.5 billion from rural development funds in Sabah.
MACC sources told FMT that according to Section 177 of the Criminal Procedure Code, a remand order can only be applied a maximum of two times.
Peter was detained after presenting himself at the MACC office here last Thursday to have his statement taken.
Media reports said that 350 projects under the federal rural and regional ministry are being scrutinised by MACC in its probe into the alleged embezzlement.
The projects were planned to be carried out between 2009 and 2015 in Kota Kinabalu, Kudat, Kota Belud, Ranau, Beaufort, Keningau, Lahad Datu, Tawau and Sandakan.
The RM1.5 billion was said to be part of RM7.5 billion allocated for water, electricity and road infrastructure development projects.
Six other people are still in remand in connection with the case: Warisan Youth chief Azis Jamman, Hamid Apdal who is Warisan president Shafie Apdal’s brother, Umno Tenom Youth head Jamawi Jaafar, Umno Tawau Youth leader Ariffin Kassim, a local businessman and a former deputy secretary of the rural and regional development ministry.
MACC said it had identified 32 people it needs to talk to in its investigations.
