PETALING JAYA:
The home ministry will probe a Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) officer for allegedly criticising the Johor sultan on Sunday.

Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed, in a text message, told FMT: “Home ministry will investigate the matter.”

Earlier, former minister Zaid Ibrahim had dared Umno ministers to act on the Jakim officer, Zamihan Mat Zin, for harshly criticising the Johor ruler.

Zamihan had allegedly criticised Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar for ordering a launderette to cease its Muslim-only policy in Muar, Johor, last month.

During a religious talk at Masjid Tengku Ampuan Jemaah in Shah Alam on Sunday, Zamihan had said the order was not at all acceptable. A video of his speech has gone public.

Speaking to FMT, Zaid had said Zamihan’s harsh language was grounds for Umno ministers to take action, pointing out that Jamil Khir Baharom was not only an Umno minister but was also head of Jakim.

Zaid said the rakyat should not talk to the rulers like that.

“Even if you disagree with them, you have to show some respect.

“We should not tolerate this kind of comments from a civil servant.”
