Sabah Umno information deputy head Ramlee Marhaban said he was bewildered by Warisan’s reaction because the party has always boasted that it is the most transparent and honest party.
“But now, when MACC has opened an investigation and it just happens to involve one of their leaders, they suddenly jump.
“This proves that Warisan is not a credible opposition party as they claim to be,” he told FMT.
Judging by comments from Warisan leaders on Peter’s remand order, Ramlee said it seemed as if the leaders are insinuating that MACC were targeting Warisan because they are an opposition party.
“This is a normal procedure. In fact, the case is just under investigation. No allegations nor charges have been made.
“It is also wrong to say that MACC is taking orders from the federal government in carrying out their duties.
“MACC had opened their investigation based on information they received. Maybe, it is only now that they have enough evidence to actually take action and expand their probe,” he said.
Ramlee also dismissed Warisan president Shafie Apdal’s question as to why no action was taken against him while he was still a minister.
Ramlee, who is also Sabah assistant finance minister, said it is unfair for Shafie to use that as his defence because the impact of projects can only be seen a few years after they were completed.
According to MACC, some of the projects meant for rural areas were not completed or were not done according to specifications while some were not done at all.
Ramlee, who is Bugaya assemblyman, also slammed Warisan as well as other opposition leaders for being two-faced when it comes to corruption investigations.
“Whenever MACC investigated government officials or politicians from BN, they will either stay silent or criticise MACC for not going after ‘the big fish’. When MACC goes after opposition members, they accused MACC of selective prosecution.
“Nothing will make them happy. The truth is MACC has investigated many people from both sides of the political divide.
“The opposition must respect MACC for how they carry out their duties and not throw baseless accusations against them,” Ramlee said.
