SHAH ALAM: A pathologist told the High Court today during the Kim Jong Nam murder trial that he found traces of erectile dysfunction medicine in his blood stream.

Dr Mohd Shah Mahmud, who heads the forensic department at Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL), said this during cross examination by defence lawyer Gooi Soon Seng.

Gooi, representing murder accused Indonesian Siti Aisyah, 25, asked the doctor to list the type of drugs found in Jong Nam’s blood samples.

“There were six types of drugs in the deceased’s blood samples, namely drugs to treat diabetes, high blood pressure, gout and also erectile dysfunction,” he said.

Siti Aisyah and Vietnamese Doan Thi Huong, 29, are standing trial on a charge of murdering the estranged half-brother of North Korean supreme leader Kim Jong Un on Feb 13.

The eldest son of former North Korean leader Kim Jong Il, arrived in Malaysia on Feb 6, and was at the klia2 to board a 9am flight to Macau on the day he was killed.

He died on the way to Putrajaya Hospital, sparking a diplomatic row between Putrajaya and Pyongyang.

During the opening statement on Monday, the prosecution said it would prove that the two women approached Jong Nam at the airport’s departure hall and sprayed VX nerve agent on his eyes and face.

Prosecutors told the court the actions of Siti Aisyah and Doan showed they both intended to cause Jong Nam’s death.

Dr Shah, who is the sixth prosecution witness, confirmed Jong Nam died of VX nerve agent and it was his first time handling a case relating to the poison.

Yesterday, chemical pathologist Dr Norashikin Othman told the court that the nerve agent might not be the only reason for a low amount of cholinesterase enzyme in a person’s blood.

The low amount of the enzyme in a person’s blood could be due to consumption of hormone pills, she added.

Cholinesterase enzyme is found inside a human body and it acts to control the muscles and coordination of body movements.

A lack of the enzyme can lead to heart and muscle dysfunction.
