The PPBM youth chief, who along with Anina was one of the party’s founding members in September last year, said he hoped that she would continue to fight against corruption.
“I will always think of Anina as a friend and I want to remind her that she must never forget the reason we created PPBM in the first place.
“We must continue to fight the corrupt leaders in Umno,” he told FMT.
Syed Saddiq also denied Anina’s allegation of cronyism in the party and the possibility that PPBM had become a platform for those who wanted to keep their political careers alive.
“I can tell you that the allegations are categorically wrong. In the youth wing we had never met each other before, and we give people positions based on whether or not they are qualified to hold such a position,” he said.
In announcing her resignation today, Anina had also taken a swipe at PPBM secretary-general Shahruddin Md Salleh.
Shahruddin had claimed on Dec 26 last year that the issue of Anina being removed as the PPBM women’s chief did not arise as the party had not yet set up the wing.
“I dare say that the secretary-general is not fit nor does he have the qualifications to be the secretary-general, and if what I say is not true then sue me,” she had said.
She also claimed that she may have been given a fake letter of credentials following her swearing-in as a supreme council member, and challenged Shahruddin to prove otherwise.
She based this on the fact that the letter did not contain Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s signature, saying that the PPBM chairman had signed the actual document in front of her.
When contacted, Shahruddin told FMT that he had no comment.
Anina also said she would continue her struggle through an NGO which she would head and which was awaiting approval from the Registrar of Societies (ROS).
The NGO will focus on matters relating to the economic conditions of the people but will not stray far from politics, she said.
