
Anuar Wahab was charged with committing the offence under Section 42 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, reported the New Straits Times.
The father of four claimed trial to the charge.
Under Section 42 (1) of the Act, anyone found guilty of dangerous or reckless driving is liable to a jail term of a maximum of five years, and to a fine of a minimum of RM5,000 but not exceeding RM15,000.
If convicted, a first-time offender would also be disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for at least two years.
Deputy public prosecutor Mahmoodah V M Abdul Latif proposed bail of RM10,000, but defence counsel M Saravanan pleaded for a lower bail amount, citing that the accused had four children, one of whom was about to enrol at Universiti Teknologi Mara in Melaka.
Magistrate Abdul Jalil Salam then set bail at RM5,000, on the condition that the accused should report to the nearest police station on the first day of every month until the end of the trial.
The court set Oct 16 for the case to be mentioned.
It was reported that national cycling coach Johari Nayan was training with his para-cycling team of Mohd Nor Rizuan Zainal, 31; Khairul Azwan Wahab, 25; Nur Syafiq Suhaimy, 19; and Khairul Nizam Mohd Ali, 23, when a four-wheel drive vehicle rammed into them at about 10.45am at Km12.5 of the Kuala Lumpur-Kuala Selangor Highway (Latar) on Thursday.
The cyclists and their coach suffered multiple injuries and were sent to Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment.
