PETALING JAYA: Four Paralympian cyclists and a coach sustained multiple injuries after they were hit by a four-wheel drive while training along the Latar Highway near Batu Arang.

According to a report in The Star, national cycling coach Johari Nayan was training with Mohd Nor Rizuan Zainal, 31, Khairul Azwan Wahab, 25, Nur Syafiq Suhaimy, 19, and Khairul Nizam Mohd Ali, 23, when the vehicle rammed into them at about 10.50am on Thursday.

Kuala Selangor police chief Supt Ruslan Abdullah said the victims were sent to Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment after they suffered multiple injuries from the hit-and-run accident.

Ruslan said the driver of the four-wheel drive fled the scene and police were in the midst of tracing the vehicle and its driver.

The New Straits Times (NST) reported that police were scrutinising CCTV recordings at surrounding areas and nearby toll plazas to track down the driver of a black Toyota Hilux.

Ruslan said the athletes were riding in the middle lane upon approaching the Bandar Tasik Puteri exit, as they were heading towards Rawang from Ijok.

“Investigation revealed that the accident was caused when the Hilux driver was changing lanes to enter the exit,” the NST quoted Ruslan as saying.

Ruslan urged anyone with information to contact the police as soon as possible.
