KUALA LUMPUR: Former inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar today said he had done his best throughout his 40 years in the police force.

“I have given my all and my best and there is no unfinished business that I need to settle,” Khalid said in his farewell speech here today.

He was speaking during a handover ceremony on the appointment of Mohamad Fuzi Harun as the new inspector-general of police at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol).

Khalid added that he was loyal to the force and would continue serving “in my own way, as long as I live”.

He said he accepted that it was time to leave the position, and expressed confidence that the police force under his successor Fuzi would remain dynamic and continue protecting society and ensuring the security of the country.

He also thanked everyone for their support during his tenure with the police force.

Khalid, who was the country’s 10th inspector-general of police, had previously remained tight-lipped when asked whether his contract would be extended.

He joined the police force as an inspector in 1976 and oversaw numerous high-profile cases throughout his career.

These include the assassination of North Korean Kim Jong Nam, and the murder case of deputy public prosecutor Kevin Morais.
