Its spokesperson said the campaign is necessary in light of the increasing reports of animal-transmitted diseases such as rabies in the country.
According to the campaign poster, participants will receive RM30 for each stray dog captured and RM5 for every rat.
The dogs will be brought to the local pound. If they remain unclaimed after seven days, they will be put to sleep.
“The campaign will be focused but not limited to the local authority areas.
“Every individual who wishes to participate in the campaign must adhere to the terms and conditions set out by the LC,” he said.
The animals must be humanely captured in accordance with the Animal Welfare Act 2015.
The corporation stated it will not be responsible for any injury sustained by individuals during efforts to capture the animals.
The campaign is seen as a positive way to control and limit the increasing population of stray animals on the island and would go a long way to produce a better environment for islanders.
Nevertheless, some quarters have expressed dismay at what they see as a waste of the corporation’s funds.
“The money could be used elsewhere such as improving infrastructure because RM5 for a rat is too much,” said resident Awang Asmadi Awang Putra.
