PETALING JAYA: Malaysia lost to Thailand 0-1 in the SEA Games men’s football final, courtesy of an own goal by Malaysian keeper Haziq Nadzli.

The howler, which saw Haziq punch the ball into his own net, came in the 38th minute after Malaysia gave away a corner.

Despite putting up a spirited fight in the second half, Malaysia failed to find the much-needed equaliser to the dismay of the tens of thousands of Harimau Malaya fans who packed the Shah Alam stadium tonight.

After coming up tops in the group stage, Malaysia were favourites to clinch the gold medal on home soil.

The last time Malaysia struck gold in the men’s football tournament was in the 2011 SEA Games.
