KUALA LUMPUR: A man was shot in the left knee by one of two men at his house in Ampang Perdana here today.

China Press identified the victim as Mustafa, the driver of former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail. Mustafa was reported to have started work in January.

Ampang Jaya police chief ACP Hamzah Alias said the incident happened at 9.20am when the 40-year-old was standing at the front door of his house, Bernama reported.

Two men, who were not wearing crash helmets, rode up to his house on a motorcycle.

One of them called out the victim’s name while the other fired a shot.

“They sped off on the motorcycle,” Hamzah said in a statement, adding that the motive for the attack was being investigated.

The injured man has been admitted to the Ampang Hospital and is in stable condition.

China Press reported that at the time of the incident, the front gate was open as the victim was about to leave the house.

It said the shooting appeared to be a warning to the victim as he was shot only in the leg.
