The lawyer for Anita Ting Mee Siong, 40, has been given until the end of this week by the Boroko district court to back up his claim on the authenticity of the letter.
The PNG Post Courier newspaper reported today that lawyer Paul Amaiu had claimed that the letter dated Aug 16 from minister Petrus Thomas was not authentic as Thomas had not been sworn in and the signature could be disputed.
The letter ordering Ting’s deportation was handed to magistrate Alex Kalandi last Thursday.
Ting had been scheduled to stand trial but the hearing could not proceed after the dispute over the letter was brought up.
She had earlier also been charged under Section 16 of the immigration act for illegally staying in PNG.
In an earlier report on June 1, the Post Courier had cited a police summary of the facts of her case that stated that she was in Boroko, a suburb of the capital city Port Moresby, when police got information she was in possession of drugs.
A search at her residence at the Ela Vista Apartments, along the popular Ela Beach, allegedly found 44 self-made sex videos and 24 nude photos of women, the newspaper reported. Police confiscated a laptop with images.
Police attempts to arrest her failed when she failed to appear for mention at the Boroko district court on four occasions.
“On Feb 8, she appeared for her fifth mention at the Boroko district court. After her case was heard, she was taken to Waigani police station for questioning in relation to the laptop containing the sex videos,” it added.
Ting was formally charged, under Section 25A (1) of the Summary Offences Act, for having in her possession sex videos, pornographic movies and nude photos that are grossly offensive and against accepted standards of decency, the report said.
On Aug 25, the Loop news portal reported that Ting was arrested again on Aug 2 following a tip-off for drugs.
It said police searched her vehicle and found two small packages of marijuana in her ashtray.
This case is to be heard on Sept 5, the Loop report said.
