Brickfields police chief Hoo Chang Hook said the incident occurred at a car wash at Jalan Kerinchi when enforcement officers detained the suspect and instructed him to undergo a urine test.
However, the man refused and became aggressive, he said.
“In the struggle, the suspect used a knife and slashed the victim, causing injuries to his right palm and thumb,” Hoo said in a statement.
The suspect fled following the incident.
The 48-year-old officer is being treated at the University Malaya Medical Centre, where he is reported to be in a stable condition.
Police identified the suspect as a 46-year-old man from Cheras, and efforts are underway to track him down.
The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt with a weapon.
