Selangor PAS state commissioner Sallehen Mukhyi said his party was ready to discuss with any others their determination to topple BN, especially after Wan Azizah accused them of weakening the opposition by wishing to run in seats held by Pakatan Harapan components.
The opposition coalition comprises PKR, DAP, Amanah and PPBM.
“PAS has worked hard for a long time to defeat BN. We already launched our machinery at every state constituency to face BN.
“What else do we need to do to show that PAS is indeed serious in wanting to bring down BN?” he told FMT.
Yesterday, Wan Azizah, who is opposition parliamentary leader and Permatang Pauh MP, said PAS’ intention to contest several PKR-held seats in Selangor showed it was not serious in wanting to put an end to BN.
She said the prime objective of the opposition should be to bring down the BN. She said if opposition parties were divided on the issue, BN would end up winning the election.
“If PAS is seen to be supportive of Umno, they would lose the backing of not just the non-Malays but also the Malays,” she added.
Sallehen, who is Sabak state assemblyman, accused its splinter Amanah of preventing PAS from engaging in a direct contest with BN. Amanah was formed in 2015 after several leaders left PAS.
He said this was based on Amanah’s decision to run in the Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar by-elections in June last year which resulted in BN winning the two seats.
He added that Selangor Amanah chief Izham Hashim had announced the party’s intention to field candidates in every seat that PAS would contest.
“PAS is serious about defeating BN, but Amanah is targeting our seats even though PKR had maintained its relations with PAS.
“So who is not serious (about defeating BN)? Who started this tradition of three-cornered fights?” Sallehen asked.
He added that DAP also wanted to place its candidates in eight seats that would be contested by PAS.
“Does this show seriousness in fighting BN? Is this not the work of PKR’s own partners in Pakatan Harapan?” he asked.
