The association’s president, Mohd Zaidi Hajazi, told a press conference today that the negative perception would impact the welfare of the university and put pressure on its students.
He advised the public who had doubts to clarify them directly with the university itself.
Zaidi also expressed the association’s support for its vice chancellor Mohd Redzuan Othman who, he said, had contributed greatly to the development of Unisel.
The MACC investigation involves a payment dispute between Unisel and a contractor, Jana Niaga Sdn Bhd.
Last Tuesday, MACC launched simultaneous raids on Unisel’s campuses in Bestari Jaya and Section 7, the Jana Niaga offices in Desa Pandan (Kuala Lumpur) and Bestari Jaya as well as the Selangor Menteri Besar Incorporated (MBI) office in Section 14.
They carted away 10 boxes said to contain documents.
The investigation centred on two payments totalling RM16 million, which MBI had allegedly made to Jana Niaga in two instalments – RM10 million in 2016 and RM6 million last year.
The payments were made even though the contract with Jana Niaga to maintain the student accommodation at the campus in Bestari Jaya had allegedly been terminated by Unisel in 2012.
