Selangor CID chief Asst Comm Fadzil Ahmad said it was too early to confirm the reports as the matter was still under investigation.
“The allegation that they were paid RM50 is still being investigated and the police have not made any confirmation,” he told FMT today.
“It was only the media that reported it. We did not say it. We do not want to give a confirmation yet on whether they had been given money or anything,” he said.
It was reported yesterday that the three youngsters aged 17 to 19, who were arrested by police following the incident on Sunday were paid to attend the forum.
They are suspected of being involved in causing the disturbance during the programme which saw flares, chairs and other objects being hurled when PPBM chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad was fielding questions from the floor.
Malaysian Insight reported that the trio were among a group of youths asked to wait in Setiawangsa before the event where they were handed T-shirts bearing the PPBM logo.
They were remanded by the Shah Alam Magistrate’s Court yesterday for four days to facilitate investigations.
Seven other individuals were also remanded today for four days over the incident.
“The police are working hard to conduct this investigation so that those responsible will be punished,” Fadzil said.
“We have detained seven others under remand until Aug 18, and if need be we will make new arrests,” he said.
The suspects are being investigated under Section 15(2)(d) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012, Section 153 of the Penal Code and Section 8 of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances Act 1957.
