“The delegates, including me, were having a group photo after attending the dinner function at the Philippine Affairs and Asian Institute for Democracy in Manila.

“During the time, everyone was taking pictures, and someone took a photo of me and Jacel Kiram at that time.”

Nurul was answering a question by senior federal counsel Zureen Elina Mohd Dom on whether she had planned on taking a picture with Jacel, who is the daughter of Jamalul Kiram, who was said to have led the 2013 Lahad Datu intrusion in Sabah.

She was testifying in the lawsuit she took against Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar and Rural and Regional Development Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob for allegedly defaming her by claiming she had committed “treason” by meeting Jacel.

They allegedly also accused her of being a “traitor”.

When asked by another senior federal counsel, Normastura Ayub, on whether Jacel was considered an “enemy” of the state, Nurul said the definition of “enemy” was very subjective.

“She was only linked to the Lahad Datu intrusion.

“If I have to say that she is an ‘enemy’, she would have been prosecuted over the intrusion,” she said.

Normastura continued to press Nurul on a suggestion on whether Khalid, as the nation’s top policeman, had the right to give his opinion over the meeting as it involved a matter of national security. Nurul disagreed with the assertion.

“His statement was not neutral and if he wants to talk about it, then he should have done it in a proper way,” Nurul said.

The hearing continues tomorrow before Judicial Commissioner Faizah Jamaluddin.

PKR Batu MP Tian Chua, who was with Nurul during the Manila meeting two years ago, will also be testifying tomorrow.
