PETALING JAYA: A Chinese national claims to have been scammed by an MCA member into paying RM165,000 to receive Malaysian citizenship.

Kong Kon Chioong, who is a friend of the alleged victim, and DAP’s Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng, accompanied the woman when lodging a police report against the MCA member at the Damansara police station here today.

Kong claimed that the MCA member had told them to apply for the citizenship through him, as he is good friends with a senior official in the home ministry.

Taman Segambut DAP secretary Yew Jia Haur told FMT that the MCA member claimed to have asked for RM400,000 as the complete fee to apply for a blue Malaysian identification card.

“Since the beginning of this year, Kong had made four payments on behalf of his friend, once in January and three more times in May,” Yew said.

Lim said that he is looking for justice to be served as the victim had been duped into thinking she was able to receive Malaysian nationality without going through the due process.

According to Yew, the Chinese national has since given up hope in attempting to gain Malaysian citizenship after being scammed.

Selangor DAP committee member Ronnie Liu and Kampung Tunku assemblyman Lau Weng San were also present at the police station.
