One is a 44-year-old lawyer based in Kuala Lumpur and the other, a 29-year-old female legal assistant from the same law firm.
They are suspected of being involved in the preparation of the sale and purchase agreement between the owner and a third party, leading to FIC’s purchase of the hotel.
Sources said both suspects were detained at around 4pm at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.
The lawyer is suspected of having links with the owner of the company who made the hotel’s sale and purchase transaction with FIC.
Meanwhile, the female suspect is believed to have played an important role in signing the sale and purchase agreement.
MACC director Simi Abd Ghani confirmed the arrests when contacted.
He added that more people would be detained in the investigation.
Both suspects will be remanded in the Magistrate’s Court in Putrajaya tomorrow to help with the probe.
On Aug 1, the MACC arrested the former chief executive officer of FIC to assist in investigations into the £60 million (RM330 million) purchase of a luxury hotel in Kensington, London.
The hotel referred to by the MACC was likely the four-star Grand Plaza Kensington Hotel which FIC acquired on Dec 16, 2014.
Preliminary investigations by the MACC revealed that FIC was believed to have bought the hotel at a much higher price than the market price, resulting in FIC allegedly losing millions of ringgit.
The hotel has 62 rooms and is located at Lexham Gardens within the exclusive district of Kensington and Chelsea.
