PETALING JAYA: Sixty Great Alonioners Trading Corporation Bhd (Gatco) settlers as well as several PSM members are on their way to the Jempol police station in Negeri Sembilan to lodge reports on the treatment of 28 arrested settlers.

The 28 settlers were arrested yesterday for trying to block Thamrai Holdings Sdn Bhd representatives from entering the Gatco village and cutting down the rubber trees there.

Speaking to FMT, PSM central committee member S Arutchelvan said because many of those arrested were senior citizens, the rest of the settlers wanted to ensure they were being taken care of.

“A lot of them will be needing medication,” he said. “It turns out that one of them is a vegetarian and therefore is not given any food except for some bread and water.”

He revealed that the settlers had known that the police were going to clamp down on the settlers a month ago.

“They had received word that these arrests were going to take place. The police had already come to the site and had started taking photos.”

He claimed Thamrai’s move to remove the trees was made ahead of an injunction hearing scheduled on July 25.

“The injunction is to stop them from taking away the trees so they’re doing it now which would make any decision at the injunction hearing meaningless.”

The settlers and PSM members will also be lodging reports on this.
