At around 10.20am this morning, seven MACC officers arrived at the FIC office here.
At 5.45pm, MACC officers were seen carrying out three boxes and two suitcases of documents which they loaded into their car.
Corporate communication division spokesperson Fathi Ahmad Shah in a statement said FIC is giving its full support and cooperation to MACC to enable the commission to conduct a detailed investigation.
“FIC is committed to supporting efforts by the relevant parties to enhance transparency, accountability, integrity and ethical business practices as key features of good corporate governance,” it said.
In a statement on July 15, MACC chief commissioner Dzulkifli Ahmad set up a team to investigate the deal, which was concluded between 2013 and 2015, after the agency received new information.
He stated that several individuals will be questioned to aid in the investigation of the RM330 million purchase of the hotel in Kesington by FIC in 2014.
“Based on preliminary information from the investigation, FIC is believed to have bought the hotel at a price far exceeding the original price and this caused the company to sustain a loss of millions of ringgit,” it said.
“A thorough investigation will be carried out to determine whether there was any element of corruption and abuse of power in the purchase process,” Dzulkifli said.
It was reported that the individuals are key witnesses to aid in the investigation.
FIC, a subsidiary of Felda, was set up on July 2, 2013 and is principally involved in property development, hospitality and other strategic investments.
Felda chairman Shahrir Abdul Samad was reported to have said earlier this year that FIC’s board of directors were ordered to resign “to make it easier to implement reforms and reorganise the company”.
