Male Uber driver alleges molest by male passenger

Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching says the incident shows that men can also be victims of sexual crime and it should be taken seriously instead of being made fun of.

PETALING JAYA: A full-time Uber driver has lodged a police report claiming he was molested by a male passenger who held his private part during a ride on Tuesday.

The 39-year-old, who has been a driver with the e-hailing company for three weeks, said he had picked up two passengers heading towards Petaling Jaya from Taman Desa when the incident occurred at about 12.45am.

He said he dropped one of them at the Jalan SS2/24 Seapark area and the other passenger who was in the back seat moved to the front.

“After shutting the car door and as the car was moving, he suddenly grabbed my penis. It was painful,” the driver said.

“Before that, he had asked me to perform oral sex on him.

“He also asked me if I was married, and said that marrying a man was better. It was so disgusting,” he added in the police he report lodged at the Sri Petaling police station yesterday.

The Uber driver said the man who allegedly molested him then told him that his friend had gotten off at the wrong location and instructed him to pick the friend again.

The driver added that he later dropped the perpetrator at Uncle Don’s eatery in Petaling Jaya before dropping off the other person that he had picked up again at his house.

When contacted today, the Uber driver told FMT that the man’s action in grabbing his groin left him in pain for 12 hours.

He claimed that the passenger “had an evil smile on his face”, and added, “I really thought he wanted to rape me and perform anal sex”.

He also said he suffered from psychological trauma because of the incident.

“After fetching both of them, I broke down and cried,” he said.

“Every time a male passenger sits in front, I will feel uneasy. At times, I feel as if an invisible hand is going to grab my penis.

“I am now facing psychological trauma. I am now afraid to drive at night,” he said, adding that he still operated after sundown but less frequently.

The Uber driver’s account was highlighted by Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching on Facebook yesterday.

Teo said the driver had asked her if he should lodge a police report, as he was worried that no action would be taken.

“I told him he definitely should,” Teo said. “So, yes, men can also be victims of sexual crime, and it is not funny.”

“We should treat all sex crime victims in the same manner,” she added in her posting.
